Cask or Keg
Cask beer, also known as real ale, cask ale, and cask-conditioned beer, is similar to bottle-conditioned beer. Like bottle-conditioned beer, the yeast in the cask carbonates the beer naturally and ferments for a second time, keeping the beer fresher. Keg beers are generally brewery conditioned; they are fermented at the brewery, cold-stabilised and are then force-carbonated

Cask beer, also known as real ale, cask ale, and cask-conditioned beer, is similar to bottle-conditioned beer. Like bottle-conditioned beer, the yeast in the cask carbonates the beer naturally and ferments for a second time, keeping the beer fresher. Once opened, the contents should be good for 5 to 7 days

The advantage of cask ale over modern beer is similar to the benefits of bottle-conditioned beer. As the beer is naturally carbonated by yeast, it continues to develop and age. However, cask beer should be consumed within 5 to 7 days of being tapped. After this, the beer may start to taste vinegary, because each pint poured from the cask is replaced by a similar volume of air, causing the contents to oxidise. This short shelf-life was one of the reasons why breweries switched to keg beers around the 1960's. The decline of cask ale was not to everyone's liking, and the Campaign for Real Ale was founded in 1971 to ensure that the art of cask brewing did not die out.

A selection of Flash Brewery's ales are available in casks of the following sizes;
